Dundee Factory Skatepark Competition 1989 (Part 2)

Chimp, Snoz and Davie Philip skating Dundee facstory skatepark 1989The inset photographs show Davie Philip (caption: Tailslide from Mr Philip — you can assume this covered yards) and Snoz (In a traditional contest nose stalls to fakie would have rated higher).
Main picture is of Chimp, I think, and someone I can’t identify. The more I look at this picture, the more I like it. At the time I think we might have been wary of giving it so much space, but it needs to be seen full size to work well. The intensity of the movement around Chimp’s board and face would have been lost otherwise.

  1. i can remember the article very well. but i was wondering are you going to re run the article you done on how to get into the munster comps? i think it was team shamrock? please re run that article becasue when you were 15 or even younger it gave you some kind of insperation to try and get further than your back yard gate…even though you knew you probably wouldnt.cheers mate anyhow

  2. Rogue: at some point that Munster article will certainly appear. It is one of my favourite pieces of Gavin’s writing. I can’t say when it will happen — this is a very long-term project.

The Gavin Hills article about “How to Win Munster” is mentioned in a discussion in the Sidewalk forum in a more general discussion about skateboarding then and now.
