Hi Brandon,

I don’t recall there being a direct connection between Small Room and New Deal, but by memory is getting fuzzy. I can certainly remember the Underworld Element (Andy Howell even did a cover for the magazine, but the publisher made us use it as a spread instead) and Mad Circle connections.

Pretty sure that Small Room was sort of a precursor to New Deal (or that they are some how related), which, of course, helped spawn both Underworld Element (which you would know today as simply Element) and Mad Circle (which, sadly, also didn’t survive the ’90′s I think).

I have a couple of good friends (who no longer skate) who were on the Small Room am team in the early ’90′s. Ahhh, the good ole’ days.

hi there, i just found out that Colin Paton was actually my dad, im his 15 year old teenage son, i used to go to the skatepark all the time and had to idea he was involved in it, i was wondering if you’d be able to send me some photos of him because i dont have any and i have no idea what he looks like

Hi I was wondering if anyone else remembered a strange collage that had some cut outs and cartoons etc that said “Gee I just messed myself” and “scollop frenzy and pob makes three” if you could upload that page I would be interested, as I always remember it.

Unfortunately our mum threw out years worth of 2000 AD, Marvel comics, Rad and SK8 action mags when we still lived at home.

I’ve been trying to get hold of one of the later 1993 issues with a Milton Keynes feature for a long time. I’ve got a few pics in it and it would be awesome to at least have scans of the article. If you can help or happen to have that issue spare I’ll bite your arm off!

This issue covered the Bus Station comp which I think was in early June 92. The first MK article was the year before with words and pics by Leo. Skaters were Leo (melon over lamp post at the beige, 180 nose grind on the courts rail), Jessop (360 flip down the biege 3 steps), Bryan (backside smith on the courts rail, which was actually a frontside 5-0 of sorts), James Knight (melon off the high wall at the beige, me and Linz in the background), Steve Ince (nose grind tail grab at the station) and Dean Jasper (melon down the large steps over the large brown bar). I lost my copy years ago but luckily had taken photo’s of the pics for a uni project. Happy to email them to you if you want?

I had that deck, it was great. I think it was one of the first to move away from sculpted rails and cut outs (see the santa cruz ones below) and towards the ‘lollypop’ shape that became the norm not too long afterwards. But what do I know!
