Dobie took this picture of Gator and rollerskater Jimmy Scott at the Munster competition in 1988.
Once again, I find little to say. This is a very dry period!

This was the first RAD I ever bought and was so stoked I put this poster on our fridge. I think mum was impressed with the coping clearance!!!
After all these years, I’ve only just noticed this but isn’t that Tony Mag? It’s a Mag t-shirt and a Mag trick “facial”…….

I see exactly what you mean about the expression. It certainly looks like him.
But this would have been captioned very soon after the event and would have been pulled out of a group of pictures of the same run, by people who were at the event. I’d be surprised if we had got something like this wrong.
And yet… We certainly did make mistakes. Too often. And one as big as this is the kind of thing I might even have blanked from memory!
Perhaps someone else can help us?

You’re probably right………maybe I should watch the Gator film and check back….

I’m 99.9% sure this is T-Mag.

The more I look at it the more I’m convinced: I agree, it’s Magnusson, not Gator.

That’s 100% Tony Magnusson for sure, Thought that straight away. Skated with him in 2001 at the Encinitas YMCA, he still rips and he’s such a nice guy.

Thanks, Adie. And you make another good point. When I look back on the years I spent involved in skating it’s always the people I remember. The vast majority were really nice to meet as well as inspiring in their different approach to the world around us.

sorry for being late to the game but its definitely tmag and not gator, the face, the shirt and the deck below (though mine is printed reversed):

Stumbled onto this site while searching for info on the Hombrechtikon slalom/downhill race.
It’s definitely Magnusson in the pic. In addition to the above info, recall that Gator was a goofy foot and Magnusson was/is regular foot.
Maybe the “people who were at the event and captioned it soon after” had a bit too much fun at the event and were still tipsy afterward! 🙂

Tipsy? no bruv all RAD staff were straight edge. That pic was 200% Gator I remember just before the run he said he was going to skate regular while doing his famous Magnusson impression just to fuck up the caption monkey…..pass the bong dude!
